Globe Specialist & Binder
Matthew has a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts, class of 1991. Matthew began his apprenticeship at the bindery in 1993 and gradually started taking on the challenges of globe work. He is now one of the foremost experts on globe restoration in the States. His interests include fine arts, antiquities and Japanese Martial Arts.
“It is a great privilege to be entrusted with so many rare and unique objects from the past. Conserving and restoring them allows me to use my skills as an artist, as a historian and sometimes as an alchemist. Matching old colors, paints and dyes account for half of my work.”
